Electronic DJ and producer ( Adrien DeFontaine ’13) has just released the first in a series of monthly electronic music mixes. If you’ve seen Crook DJ various parties around campus, including several spots at Psi U and the Grotto, you have an idea of what to expect. This is not music for laptop speakers.The mix covers a variety of styles, including baltimore club, ghettotech, house, and rap– appealing to a wide audience of electro lovers. Note: this is not a mix of original material (although there is one Crook$hanks re-edit), but a compilation of artists and songs that Crook$hanks “thinks are cool.”The mix is dedicated to the artist formerly known as ( Ethan Cohen ’13 ), who inspired Crook to start DJing. Before he was leader singer/heart-throb of emo-titans, actor/singer Jared Leto got his start performing at WestCo’s weekly. Ben Goldwasser ’05 and Jared Leto formed proto-MGMT/Mars act The Canteloupes in 2003. The Canteloupes were scouted at a Westco open mic and invited to play at the dorm’s annual music/arts festival, 8th Day of the Week.

The Facebook invite advertised, “Taking off your pants and jacket.” As many of us know, the band and crowd when two strange middle-aged men showed up and one of them got completely naked and started shaking his private parts at bassist Adrien DeFontaine ’13.Guitarist Jason Katzenstein ’13 was unperturbed, and continued singing “Man Overboard” (a face-palmingly appropriate title). The effect this course of events had on Dink’s crowd was a bit like watching this Youtube video in reverse.
Dink stopped playing shortly afterwards, as Middletown PD were called into action.The good news is that the show got Dink 583 a ton of well deserved hype!
