Throughout history it has been used by those who could not prevail, either by persuasion or example. But inevitably they fail, either because men are not afraid to die for a life worth living, or because the terrorists themselves came to realize that free men cannot be frightened by threats, and that aggression would meet its own response.
And it is in the light of that history that every nation today should know, be he friend or foe, that the United States has both the will and the weapons to join free men in standing up to their responsibilities.' Both weapons are properly known as the Model 1895, both are Mannlichers, both fed by packet clips, and both were made by Steyr in large quantities.Even though these rifles have been around for a century, there is still confusion about them and their markings among collectors, and especially dealers.like the one who perpetrated the illegal sale to GJD. These misunderstandings persist to this day, even on this Forum.
GJD's post only mentioned 'Steyr M-95', and everyone assume that it was an Austro-Hungarian straight pull service rifle. It could just as easily have been the Dutch M.95 turn-bolt Mannlicher.Regards,JohnLast edited by John Wall; at 08:21 PM. Does this sound right to you or is there information out there that production actually began in 1896?The information on the production dates is from a German article in DWJ. If we have to interpret the meaning of 'production commenced in 1896' it doesn't really mean that there was any output during the same year, especially considering the month it started.
Mannlicher Steyr Rifle
Therefore, I believe you are right - the first year M.95 stutzens were complete is indeed 1897. At least I haven't seen or heard of earlier date. And, as I mentioned above, the production of the long rifles began later still.Congratulations on the early date! Let me know if you are looking to trade it or to sell it.Last edited by Nick; at 11:43 AM.
